Marymount University Herbarium (HOMU)

The collection consists of collected and mounted botanical specimens (pteridophytes, gymnosperms, angiosperms, a few multicellular algae, and a couple of lycophytes). Many of these are voucher specimen. The majority of the collection’s specimen were collected 15 – 20 years ago from a part of Loudon County, Virginia that has since seen considerable residential and commercial development. As such, these specimens represent a snapshot, if you will, of the vegetation and some of their symbioses in the area before development. The collection also contains additional specimen from other regions in the eastern to mid-continental United States, primarily northern Virginia and Maryland, especially Fairfax County.
