Rhizomes creeping, 2-3 mm in diameter; rhizome scales mostly bicolored, with a dark, strongly clathrate medial stripe and pale margins; leaf blades deeply pinnatifid with 4-14 lobes; abaxial surfaces with lanceolate-ovate scales, these clathrate throughout and mostly not overlapping.
