Habitat: General area has virgin forest, this site is wet-mesic floodplain forest
Substrate: Alluvial soil. Low level areas in wet open ground
Associated Species: Quercus, Celtis, Carya spp., and Acer saccharium. Understory includes Carex, Laportea canadensis, Senecio glabellus, Saururus cernuus
Description: Fragile hollow stemmed herb, rays and disk yellow, underside of basal leaves sometimes tinted reddish (coppery)
