south-facing slopes near bottom of canyon with Baccharis pteronioides, Bouteloua curtipendula, Cercocarpus montanus, Cylindropuntia imbricata, Echinocereus fendleri, Fallugia paradoxa, Maurandella antirrhiniflora, Melampodium leucanthum, Mimosa biuncifera, Mirabilis longiflora, Muhlenbergia emersleyi, Nolina microcarpa, Opuntia engelmannii, Pinus cembroides, Quercus grisea, and Rhus trilobata.
Frequent cespitose perennial with up to several stems; type locality of Mammillaria aggregata Engelmann (see Baker 15555); flower bud photographed 7 May 2010 from individual transplanted to greenhouse pot, Chino Valley, Arizona.
