Habitat: Pinyon-Juniper-Scrub Oak community. Fossil Creek Road heading west. On hillside on N facing slope approximately 45%.

Associated Species: Quercus turbinella, Rhus aromatica var. trilobata Cercocarpus montanus, Pinus monophylla, Agave chrysantha, Yucca bacatta, Opuntia engelmannii, Comandra umbellatum ssp. pallida, Juniperus, Nolina.

Description: Occasional succulent perennial, height 4 feet, width 2.5 feet with a single truck and branching above; trunk green with gray at base; spines completely covering pads, golden, 3-5 per areole, 7-8 rows of areoles; glochids golden, thicker on apex of ultimate pads; outer perianth yellow with greenish-brown mid-stripe, inner perianth yellow with reddish-orange mid-stripe; stigma lobe number 7-10, yellow to yellow green; style cream; filaments cream.

Reproductive Condition: Flowers.

Occurrence Remarks: Collected with permission under USDA Forest Service permit number RO-190. Fossil Creek PAPAZ Flora Project.
