Habitat: Grassy roadside in area of mixed conifer-hardwood forest. Ca. 800 ft. elev.; Locally common from near pavement to edge of blackberry brambles.
Description: Individual plants in population varying from "subradiant" with dark brown, nearly black phyllaries with long fringed appendages ? nigra type ? to strongly radiant with light brown, membranous appendages ? jacea type ? with various intermediates ?radiata types. Stems from ca. 3 dm tall to ca. 12 dm tall. Corollas pink-purple. Leaves varying from entire to coarsely lobed.
