Habitat: Growing in open depression (swale) within the Black Oak Sand Savanna. Growing with Cephalanthus occidentalis, Frangula alnus, Malus ioensis, Rosa palustris, Rubus hispidus, Salix discolor, Sambucus canadensis, Agrostis gigantea, Aletris farinosa, Carex longii, C. pellita, C. scoparia, Cornus obliqua, Iris shrevei, Lysimachia lanceolata, L. terrestris, Onoclea sensibilis, Osmunda regalis, Platanthera flava var. herbiola, etc.
