Habitat: in heavy shade of young woods growing on an eroded gully below a man-made pond. Predominant species are a short canopy of Pinus virginiana, Acer rubrum, Fagus grandifolia. Also growing with Cornus amomum, Oxydendrum arboreum, Vaccinium vacillans, Vaccinium atrococcum, Kalmia latifolia, Chimaphila maculata, Polystichum acrostichoides.
