Locally common. Erect, bulbous, perennial herb; 1.2 m tall. Community: mixed hardwood-loblolly pine forest. Topography: level to 30 degrees in drainages. Substrate: sandy loam to loam. Associates: Pinus palustris, P. elliottii, P. echinata, Nyssa biflora, Morella, Quercus, Smilax, Panicum, Carex spp.
