Latitude/Longitude was derived from the Township, Range, Section location. This causes an imprecision.
Edges of sloughs in riverbottom floodplain hardwood forest; Ulmus americana-Acer saccharinum-Fraxinus pennsylvanica var. subintegerrima community on circumneutral mineral soil of clay & silt. Additional information for Cochrane, et al. 7124-7144: Assoc. spp.: Elymus virginicus, Leersia lenticularis, Carex grayi, C. lupulina, C. lupuliformis, C. muskingumensis, C. tribuloides, C. tuckermanii, C. typhina, Polygonum pensylvanicum, P. coccineum var. pratincola, Rumex verticillatus, Penthorum sedoides, Vitis riparia, Sium suave, Lysimachia nummularia, Stachys tenuiflora, Physostegia formosior, Cephalanthus occidentalis, Aster ontarionis, and Boltonia asteroides var. recognita. Since this is the only (or possibly one of two) stands of swamp forest remaining along the river worthy of mention, and since it contains the easternmost &/or the only inland (i.e., non-Wisconsin, non-Mississippi River) stations of several of the species listed above, this stand is certainly worthy of preservation. However, diseased elms and other species have just been cut out, badly degrading it.
