Location Remarks: 2000 MWPCC Plant Exploration Trip to SE U.S. Big Hungry Gorge, off a Big Hungry Road. Adjacent to path, understory shrub on slope. Altitude: 1,920 ft.
Habitat: 450 slope, SE facing, but shaded. Soil is gritty loam, good organic layer
Associated Species: Rhododendron maximum, Calycanthus floridus, Rhus radicans, Liriodendron tulipifera, Acer rubrum, Quercus alba, Cornus alternifolia, Euonymus americanus, Pinus strobus, Tsuga canadensis, Carya sp., Rub
Description: Shrub, 8 to 12 ft. in height, less than 3/4 inch D.B.H.
