Locality: United States, Arkansas, Franklin, Arkansas Valley. Arkansas Valley Plains Ecoregion. Cherokee Prairie Natural Area. Scattered on and at the base of large hill in prairie south of Highway 60. Charleston 7.5 Quadrangle
Habitat: High-quality unplowed tallgrass prairie remnant. Concentrated at the base of the hill.
Description: More than 100 clumps were observed.
Occurrence Remarks: Downy gentian. Plants forming large clumps. Fresh flowers deep but bright blue. I first found sterile plants in the summer several years ago and had returned several time in the fall to collect but never relocated them until this year. Apparently absent from the flat areas of the prairie. Not previuosly documented from the Arkansas Valley.
