Habitat: In narrow band around margin of sandy oak upland in wetland complex; under rather sparse canopy of maturing Populus tremuloides. Moist, dary sandy-loam. Associates include Quercus macrocarpa seedlings, Vaccinium angustifolium, Amorpha canescens, Andropogon gerardii.
