Habitat: Flat to Rolling Plains ecoregion; earthen canal and adjacent recreational trail ("Prairie Retreat" zone, High Line Canal trail), embedded within an urbanizing landscape that was historically shortgrass steppe. Along this stretch, the canal is shallow and rarely holds water. Sparsely distributed trees and shrubs include: Populus deltoides, Populus angustifolia, Salix amygdaloides, Salix exigua. Grasses: a mixture of planted Secale cereale with Bromus inermis, Cenchrus longispinus, Sporobolus cryptandrus, Bouteloua gracilis, Buchloe dactyloides, Bouteloua curtipendula. Forbs: Heterotheca villosa, Abronia fragans, Verbena bracteata, Sphaeralcea coccinea, Malva neglecta, Medicago sativa, Euphorbia esula.

Description: Approximate height: 90 centimeters. Flowers: puprle. Habit: forb. Life cycle habit: biennial. Origin: introduced. Estimated frequency within viewshed: occasional to frequent (6-11+).
