Habitat:
Ecotone between Front Range Fans and Flat to Rolling Plains ecoregions; earthen canal and adjacent recreational trail ("Rolling Foothills" zone, High Line Canal trail), embedded within a rural to urbanizing landscape that was historically shortgrass steppe. Canal vegetation composition changes from ruderal grasses and forbs and planted/escaping garden plants (upland areas by trail) to water-loving trees/shrubs and associated understory (lowland areas near canal). Representative trees and shrubs: Populus deltoides, Populus angustifolia, Prunus Americana, Prunus virginiana, Salix exigua, Amorpha fruticosa, Ericameria nauseosa; Grasses: Bouteloua gracilis, Buchloe dactyloides, Pascopyrum smithii, Nasella viridula, Bromus inermis, Agropyron cristatum; Forbs: Heterotheca villosa, several species of Mirabilis and Oenothera, Helianthus annuus, Capsella bursa-pastoris, Cirsium arvense.
