Hodgson, s. n., with Julia Ramsden and Susan Morse from Arizona, Santa Cruz County, 4.2 miles south of Coronado National Forest boundary on the west side of FSR 58; Section 27 T22S R16E, in the vicinity of N 31 deg 29' 15.5'' W 110 deg 41' 12.0''; elevation 4600 feet, 1402 m; collector's notes: Associated plants: Quercus, Juglans, Senecio, Jatropha macrorhiza; shaded slope.

Plant sprawling, pads yellow-green; spines light brown, mottled with reddish-brown color and tips are dark, few spines present; flowers collected midday, diameter 60-80 mm, length 79-90 mm, outer perianth bright yellow with a reddish midstripe, inner perianth bright yellow with very slight orange midstripe; stigma lobe number 6-8, light yellow-green.
This is sheet I/II and has the pads and slides. Sheet II/II is DES 66081 and has the flowers.
