Habitat: Partly shady edge of low abandoned causeway through Wisconsin River floodplain forest of Acer saccharinum, Gleditsia triacanthos, Quercus bicolor, Betula nigra, Celtis occidentalis, Fraxinus pennsylvanica var. pennsylvanica.
Description: Single-stemmed shrub 5 m tall, 5.5 cm in diameter, ca. 10 years old. Flowers dark purple, odorless (5:00PM, sunny). About 10 shrubs of this species here, undoubtedly spontaneous, some smaller ones establishing either by seed or vegetively.

Occurrence Remarks: Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw.
