Sleepy Catchfly (Silene antirrhina). Trail at Salt Marsh Nature Center, Marine Park, Brooklyn, NY. Plants in several clumps, most numerous at site of observation. Sticky (glutinous) purplish-brown region on upper internodes conspicuous. Corolla vestigial and flowers bud-like, closed. Mature fruits (capsules) open with seeds visible through opening. Seeds of one capsule photographed in field (on palm), another capsule & seeds photographed later at home with scale. Smallest subdivisions on scale = 0.1 mm.
