Habitat: Prairie fen with sedge meadow zone common throughout, wooded fen with many tamaracks (Larix laricina); lots of Frangula alnus. Very long, narrow fen. Split by the headwaters of the Grand River. East side owned by The Nature Conservancy, west side mostly privately owned. Grand River is too deep/silty to cross without use of footbridges. Many zones in fen. Periodic shurbby zones; invasives; Phalaris arundinacea common. Typha latifolia dominated weedy area; some shrubs in area including Salix spp. Cornus foemina, and Toxicodendron vernix. Other common species in area include Impatiens capensis, Agrostis gigantea, Lycopus uniflorus, and Campanula aparinoides. Grow wet and red/brown on surface.
Description: Flowers -NA.Occasional in area; about 1 per sq. m for 10 sq. m; none in flower; growing on organic matter hummock in small clumps; about 1.2 m tall; growing with Typha, Impatiens, and Lycopus.
