Small fen located between two lakes. Remnant patch of prairie fen with majorly altered hydrology due to historic marl mining. Water table lowered dramatically, which results in much drier soils. Very marly area dominated by prairie grasses. Slightly lower, wetter ground, but still dry; shrubbier area with many browsed shrubs; similar grass species as other quadrats; Frangula alnus abundant. Ground somewhat hummocked; about 0.5m west of established trail Quercus and Zanthoxylum americanum to the west.
Flowers -inflorescences subtended by leafy bracts; flowers in elongated spikelets; copper brown and green scales; not woody; spikelets 5-7mm long; pendulous.Common along established trails; many in flower; about 2-3 per sq. m for 10 sq.m ; about 60-70cm
