Habitat: Very shrubby lakeside fen. Mostly sedge meadow and wooded fen. Dominant vegetation includes Carex stricta, C. hystericina, Rosa, Frangula alnus, Larix laricina, Toxicodendron vernix, and Symphylotrichum firmum. Invaded by Phalaris arundinacea, Frangula alnus, and Rosa multiflora. Some boggy areas in the northeast. Drosera rotundifolia were found on Sphagnum hummocks in wooded fen. In southern section, ATV or truck activity, in open sedge meadow. Possible hunting site. In central area of prairie fen on bed of what was once a north-south stream, now with mats of Eleocharis and Leersia, 40m south of trail crossing and dense Eleocharis mat. Area dominated by Leersia, Boehmeria cylindrica, and Asteraceae. Sub canopy is Toxicodendron vernix, Lindera benzoin, Cornus, and Frangula alnus. Canopy is ash (mostly dead) and Acer rubrum. Some Rosa multiflora present. Ground wet and mossy, sometimes feels like mat.
Description: Population - More common along old streambanks than bed. Branching but not flowering.
