Clint Pogue CP316
United States, Michigan, Hillsdale, Little Goose Creek Grasslands
Mostly open prairie fen with strong prairie component. Bisected by Little Goose Creek. Some large swaths of Frangula alnus being treated by Michigan Nature Association. Weedy areas develop further downstream where fen narrows. Highly variable in regards to health of fen with some patches appearing pristine and other complet Phragmites australis stands. Private property is being heavily encroached by shrubs and turning the high quality fen into a patchwork of degraded/healthy fen. Poaceae dominated portion of prairie fen in southern region of fen; surrounded on 3 sides (W, S, E) by shrub encroachment by Frangula alnus and Betula pumila; within the healthy pocket is an abundance of Sporobolus heterolepis and Dasiphora fruticosa. Other common species include Andropogon gerardii, Parnassia glauca, Solidago ohioensis, Rudbeckia fulgida, Liatris spicata and Carex retrorsa. Quadrat is most S. heterolepis; ground is moist but not inundated; would be good for Poweshiek skipperling (Oarisma poweshiek).
