United States, Michigan, Jackson, Grand River Fen
Prairie fen with sedge meadow zone common throughout, wooded fen with many tamaracks (Larix laricina); lots of Frangula alnus. Very long, narrow fen. Split by the headwaters of the Grand River. Periodic shurbby zones; invasives; Phalaris arundinacea common. Surrounded by snags; does not appear to be caused by fire. Carex stricta dominates. Eutrochium maculatum inflorescences from last year persist; 2m from inundated flat; about 20m from stream; ferric soils common (red color); oily film on top of adjacent stagnant water.
