Prairie fen with sedge meadow zone common throughout, wooded fen with many tamaracks (Larix laricina); lots of Frangula alnus. Very long, narrow fen. Split by the headwaters of the Grand River. East side owned by The Nature Conservancy, west side mostly privately owned. Grand River is too deep/silty to cross without use of footbridges. Many zones in fen. Periodic shurbby zones; invasives; Phalaris arundinacea common. Inundated mucky soils; Typha spp. Dominate with shrubs including Betula pumila, Cornus sp., Salix sp., Viburnum nudum and Toxicodendron vernix. Other herbaceous species include Caltha palustris, Impatiens capensis, Eutrochium maculatum, and Symplocarpus foetidus. Shrubs are very thick in area surrounding quadrat.
