Ratibida pinnata (Vent.) Barnhart
Clint Pogue CP334
United States, Michigan, Jackson, Lime Lake Fen
Small fen located between two lakes. Remnant patch of prairie fen with majorly altered hydrology due to historic marl mining. Water table lowered dramatically, which results in much drier soils. Very marly area dominated by prairie grasses. Alternate due to non prairie fen. Between lakes; more grasses than seen at other prairie fens. Dasiphora fruticosa, Pycnanthemum virginicum, Parnassia glauca found. Ground is dry and sand/loamy/marly as a possible result of altered hydrology due to historical marl mining. Many Juniperus trees, no Larix laricina. An odd site with very little organic matter prevalent in soil.
Flowers -NA.Around 10 individuals in quadrat; basal leaves are clumped, scattered in area; many have stems and basal leaves wither and die. Individuals as basal leaves only have wider leaves that are not pinnately lobed or starting to be pinnately lobed.
