Mostly open prairie fen with strong prairie component. Bisected by Little Goose Creek. Some large swaths of Frangula alnus being treated by Michigan Nature Association. Weedy areas develop further downstream where fen narrows. Highly variable in regards to health of fen with some patches appearing pristine and other complet Phragmites australis stands. Private property is being heavily encroached by shrubs and turning the high quality fen into a patchwork of degraded/healthy fen. In sedge meadow zone just to the west of Juniperus shrub and trees; Dasiphora fruticosa very common in area; some Frangula alnus saplings might indicate future shrub encroachment.
Flowers -globose bottlebrush pistillate spikes with reflexed perigynia; staminate spike is terminal; long-beaked perigynia; bright green; slightly inflated; terete.Very common in area; about 1-7 culms per sq. m; many in flower/fruit; achenes maturing but
