Locality: United States, Texas, Hartley, N side of Rita Blanca Lake, 100-500 ft. NW of boat ramp road leading S from F. M. 281 ca. 0.6 mi. SE of Lake Drive, S side of Dalhart. Dalhart West Quadrangle.

Habitat: Occasional in shallow sandy to clayey soil over caliche (Ogalalla Formation), in grassland on unshaded outcrop on top of bluff. Associates include Bouteloua gracilis, Oenothera brachycarpa, Dalea purpurea, D. jamesii, Hymenoxys acaulis var. acaulis, H. scaposa var. glabra, Eriogonum lachnogynum, Hymenopappus filifolius var. cinereus, Lesquerella ovalifolia, Psilostrophe villosa, Calylophus hartwegii, Echinacea angustifolia, Paronychia jamesii, P. sessilifolia, Penstemon fendleri, P. albidus.
