Habitat: Locally frequent in formerly grazed shortgrass grassland in well drained, neutral dark clay Udic Chromosterts (Crawford Series), opening in live oak - post oak - juniper woodlands on +/- level upland underlain by Glen Rose Limestone. Associates include Buchloe dactyloides, Hilaria belangeri, Schizachyrium scoparium, Phlox roemeriana, Valerianella amarella, Hymenoxys linearifolia, Lupinus texensis, Draba cuneifolia, Lesquerella gracilis, Evax prolifera.
Reproductive Condition: flowering + fruiting=mid
