Prairie fen runs along Spring Mill Creek. Edges are wooded with oaks. Horribly overgrown with many large areas that were marked as fen, now dense shrub carr. 20m west of road, 40m south of point where there is a pedestrian bridge over creek. Typha field with Asteraceae and a shrub layer of Cornus (C. sericea). Ground moist but not wet. Grasses but no Carex. Walked through a bunch of Frangula alnus on the way in.
Population - a few vegetative culms of Carex found on old C. stricta tussocks. Appears like C. stricta, but has yellow-brown ladder fibrous base, not red, and it is not a dense hummock. No flowering Carex seen in immediate vicinity. Associated with Typha.
