Prairie fen surrounded by small wood pockets and agricultural fields. Several vegetaion zones: sedge meadow, wooded, marl. Most previlent species include Cyperaceae, Dasiphora fruticosa, Cornus, Symplocarpus foetidus, and Typha. Some Phalaris arundinacea near woods on north section of fen. Many small creeks zig-zag fen (less than 1m wide). Woody cover includes Larix laricina, Betula pumila, other birches, and Toxicodendron vernix. In northernmost part of fen, within 10m of northern border east-west halfway between forested areas. Field to the north. Mostly Phalaris arundinacea for 60m2 with occasional sedges and Symplocarpus foetidus. Shrub layer is not dense (a group of about 5 every 20m2) and is mostly Cornus and Viburnum with some honeysuckle. Ground uneven with occasional hummocks. Ground moist and puddling with layer of dead leaves.
Shrub or small tree, growing in groups of 3-10 individuals, 3-10m tall, grey bark, scaly when old. Flowering in bunches at end of branches, white flowers, opposite and serrated leaves. Flowers smell nice like flowers.
