Grass occurs in perennial clumps. Many of the leaves arise nearly basally and are nearly as thin, throughout their entire length, as the stems. This gives the plant a very 'fine' appearance. Flowers are in a tight pannicle; each flower has a single awn, bending once near its middle and possessing hairs to about half its length. Hopi name: Hooki. Uncommon.
