Metro Phoenix EcoFlora

Abstract: The Metro Phoenix EcoFlora is a community science project focused on documenting urban biodiversity with a focus on plant life in the metropolitan Phoenix area. The project seeks to understand impacts of urbanization, increase the appreciation of plant life and contribute to open-source biodiversity data. This checklist was created by searching SEINet for specimens and observations that have been recorded within the metro Phoenix boundary (see polygon footprint), combined with species that have been observed on iNaturalist that also have records in SEINet. The EcoFlora project was developed by the New York Botanical Garden and is in collaboration with four gardens across the country, including Desert Botanical Garden, Denver Botanic Gardens, Chicago Botanic Garden and Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. The project is made possible in part by a National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The Metro Phoenix EcoFlora is also in collaboration with the Central Arizona Conservation Alliance (CAZCA), which supports residents and organizations in protecting and caring for open space and habitat in Central Arizona.
