Very rocky with little soil (mostly in cracks and at base of large rocks).
Most plants finished flowering/fruiting. Sedges (1 common species collected) and several small grasses (collected). Also common: Saxifraga austromontana (few still in bloom - collected), Polemonium viscosum (in fruit); Phacelia sericea (in fruit), Smelowskia (in fruit); several species of Erigeron (vegetative and in fruit); and Silene acaulis (veg. and in fruit).
Short (<15cm), tufted, wiry grass, with narrow leaves. Inflorescence a ~contracted, ascending panicle without spikelets at base of panicle branches. 1 floret/spikelet, glumes > lemma, lemma with geniculate awn from back, palea absent.
