Very rocky with little soil (mostly in cracks and at base of large rocks).
Most plants finished flowering/fruiting. Sedges (1 common species collected) and several small grasses (collected). Also common: Saxifraga austromontana (few still in bloom - collected), Polemonium viscosum (in fruit); Phacelia sericea (in fruit), Smelowskia (in fruit); several species of Erigeron (vegetative and in fruit); and Silene acaulis (veg. and in fruit).
Small, tufted plants, <20cm tall. Very fine, delicate culms, leaves and spreading panicles. 1 floret/spikelet, glumes > lemma, lemma unawned, palea absent. Panicles branching < half length. Often rooted in Silene acaulis mats.
