United States, Massachusetts, Hampden, Stafford Road (Rt. 32), Monson on the land of Dennis Michaud.
Sandy woods. Cones opening freely without the aid of fire. This colony, collected and numbered 86430, 86430A, 86430B, 86430C, consists of hundreds of trees in all stages of development and much variability among the individuals. Some have cones that open freely without the aid of fire (#86430A). Leaves vary in length from 1 inch up to 2 inches long. Growth may be loose and straggly or shrub-like with virgate branches and very compact. The colony, more than 1 mile in extent, appears to be native, although very unlikely as it is out of range!
