Plant 4' x 3', multi-stemmed plant from ground, elegant looking; stems green or yellow-green, joints are long and very spiny; spines tan on newer growth; flowers collected in the late afternoon, diameter 50-65 mm, length 55-75 mm, outer perianth yellow-green with greenish-brown or red mid-stripe, inner perianth bright lemon yellow, non-deciduous spines on flowers; stigma lobe number 7-10, yellow; style white or pale yellow; filaments yellow to yellow-green at base; thigmotropic positive; fruits dry, spiny, diameter 15-19 mm, length 35-41 mm, fruits arranged at tips of joints; seeds tan, 6.6 mm.
