Along creek, formerly heavily pastured, with Acer saccharinum, Populus tremuloides, Acer negundo, Ulmus americana.. Old tree, trunk 75cm in diameter, fallen onto the ground years ago, now new upright trunks (former side branches) growing up to 10m tall, 30cm in diameter. Inflorescences yellow, visited by many insects. Very young bracts pink. Common. Male
