Frequent associates in lower strata included Ilex opaca, Osmanthus americanus, Vaccinium arboreum (saplings), Vitis rotundifolia, Aureolaria pectinata, Carex tenax, Erigeron strigosus, and Opuntia compressa. Dominants were turkey and laurel oaks as well as scattered longleaf and loblolly pines.
With alliaceous odor. Perianth segments acuminate, white, with pale green midveins. Anthers pale buff; filaments white. Ovary crested, green on summit, whitish below. Scapes light yellow-green with a glaucous bloom. Split segments of spathe and many or most leaves withering, more or less stramineous.
