Habitat: Base of canyon.
Associated Species: Bahiopsis triangularis, Chloris crinita, Cylindropuntia fulgida, Echinocereus websterianus, Hofmeisteria crassifolia, Mammillaria multidigitata, Stenocereus thurberi
Description: Super abundant on NW- and SW-facing slopes from 10 to 110 m. Forming fields, the ground covered in the large, pointed burs. The developing burs are yellow-green. In several areas, most of the plants have blackened smut-infested inflorescences as well as many apparently uninfected inflorescences. The mother bur is usually still attached to the young and adult plants.
