Mexico, Baja California Sur, Maricopa County: Grown in cultivation at Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix, N 33 deg 27' 33'', W 111 deg 56' 35'', 1200 ft., 366 m: accession number 1993 0597 0101; originally received as a plant collected by Mark Baker 8769 on 6 March 1992, from Mexico, Baja California Sur, 7.4 miles N of San Juanico approximately 10 K NE of Boca Cadaje, N 6 deg 22', W 112 deg 30', altitude 100 m; collector's notes: n=11 plant openly branched, on lower bajada; originally received as Opuntia sp. ID confirmed as Cylindropuntia alcahes var. alcahes by Marc Baker.

Flower diameter 38-46 mm, length 39-48 mm, outer perianth reddish-brown with pale green midstripe or greenish-yellow with reddish-brown midstripe, inner perianth greenish-yellow with reddish-brown tips, reddish glochids on base of flowers, flowers collected early afternoon; stigma lobe number 4-7, color pale yellow-green, slight thigmotrophic response; joints gray-green with some dorsal sides reddish-purple, tuberculate; spines white or tan or gray; fleshy fruit yellow-green, diameter 27-29 mm , length 31-41 mm, slightly tuberculate; seeds tan, all fruit have at least one seed; dry fruit dark gray, diameter 14-16 mm, length 22-29 mm, seeds tan, all fruit have at least one seed.
