Prairie fen with sedge meadow zone common throughout, wooded fen with many tamaracks (Larix laricina); lots of Frangula alnus. Very long, narrow fen. Split by the headwaters of the Grand River. East side owned by The Nature Conservancy, west side mostly privately owned. Grand River is too deep/silty to cross without use of footbridges. Many zones in fen. Periodic shurbby zones; invasives; Phalaris arundinacea common. Shrub encroached portion in middle part of prairie fen; small openings and fingers persist as prairie fen, but mostly too shrubby; Larix laricina, Juniperus virginiana in the tree layer. Shrubs include Toxicodendron vernix, Frangula alnus, Rhamnus alnifolia, Lindera benzoin, Dasiphora fruticosa. Many Asteraceae including Solidago canadensis, Helianthus gigantea, Doellingeria umbellata. Some Muhlenbergia glomerata, Carex stricta. Ground moist but not inundated.
