Habitat: Small fen located between two lakes. Remnant patch of prairie fen with majorly altered hydrology due to historic marl mining. Water table lowered dramatically, which results in much drier soils. Very marly area dominated by prairie grasses. In northeastern portion of prairie fen on east edge of shrub encroachment and 2m west of Little Lime Lake; medium-sized Quercus rubra to immediate northwest of quadrat; Frangula alnus and Cornus sericea are main encroaching shrubs; herbaceous species in area include Andropogon gerardii, Dasiphora fruticosa, Pycnanthemum virginicum, and Daucus carota; quadrat slightly overlaps with trail ground moist but not wet; mineral soils.
