A railroad (currently used andmaintained), runs almost the entire length. Within 20m on either side of the tracks is almost all herbaceous (weedy but diverse). Further from tracks there are many tamarack trees and shrubs including some autumn olive. 10m west of railroad near west-south "middle" of the fen. 12m northwest of a power line pole. Area dominated by Cyperaceae and Asteraceae with a shrub layer of alder, Toxicodendron vernix, and Salix. Dasiphora fruticosa also common. Ground moist with some hummocks. No standing water or puddling.
Population - Most common aster in area, in groups of 2-5, 2-3 gropus per 1m2. Less abundance near taller shrubs. No fruits/flowers.
