Habitat: On moderately steep slope, NW-SE, widely scattered but most abundant at base of slope. Soil light brown, sandy, with loose shale covering surface. Assoc. with Pinus ponderosa, Sabina scopulorum, Quercus gambelii, Purshia tridentata, Tetraneuris, Hymenopappus filifolius.
