Habitat: Occasional in slightly wetter spots in blackland prairie on heavy clay Vertisols (Ferris series), opening in midslope loblolly pine forest. Associates include Eustoma grandiflorum, Rudbeckia hirta, Grindelia squarrosa, Desmanthus illinoensis, Hedyotis nigricans, Iva angustifolia, Euphorbia marginata, Andropogon glomeratus, Carex microdonta, Verbena xutha, Heliotropium tenellum, Salvia lyrata, Monarda citriodora.
Reproductive Condition: flowering=early
